About the Center

Cancer Center – A Journey, Not a Destination
The Center for Cancer Care at Oakwood offers a full continuum of cancer care services, ranging from prevention, early detection and screening to state-of-the-art, comprehensive treatment of local or advanced malignancies using a multidisciplinary team approach.

The physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals working within the Center are dedicated to providing the community with outstanding services, conveniently located and suited to the needs of patients. The Cancer Center staff and physicians are committed to meeting the needs and expectations of all the cancer patients and families they serve.

Clinical Trials and Research
Oakwood participates in multiple clinical treatment trials through numerous research cooperative groups. Clinical trials offer the highest level of care to the cancer patient; care that is thought to be as good as, if not better than, the current standard of care. If you would like to participate in an ongoing trial through Oakwood, call 313.593.8090.

A Multidisciplinary Approach
On a daily basis, physicians from all disciplines, surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, primary care physicians, pathologists and radiologists come together with research and support staffs to discuss patient cases for treatment planning and follow-up in Tumor Board Forums. The eight multidisciplinary Tumor Board programs focus on: Breast, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, Gynecologic, Head and Neck, Hematological, Neurological, and Thoracic cases.
